STP Shipyard Palma recently marked World Day for Safety and Health at Work with a new edition of its Safety Day, focused on promoting a proactive safety culture across the yard through innovation, training and awareness.
Centred on the theme "Virtual Reality Applied to Safety", the event welcomed workers and companies from across the STP facilities for a hands-on approach to safer and more responsible working practices.
Held in partnership with Fraternidad and Adsum, the initiative blended practical theory sessions with immersive virtual reality experiences designed to enhance workplace risk prevention.
Fraternidad delivered road safety workshops exploring the role of human error in work-related traffic accidents.
Through the use of simulation goggles, participants experienced a series of high-risk driving situations involving fatigue, alcohol, mobile phone distractions and adverse weather conditions, encouraging safer and more aware behaviour behind the wheel.
Meanwhile, Adsum presented a series of practical simulations focused on workplace prevention and response, using virtual reality tools to recreate scenarios such as firefighting, working at height, the detection of incorrect materials in work areas and the correct use of PPE.
"The experience was really valuable, as we had the chance to experience risk scenarios in a much more realistic and relatable way. In the end, seeing it and experiencing it for yourself makes you more aware of how important it is to work safely", explained one of the workers who took part in the event.
Through initiatives such as Safety Day, STP Shipyard Palma continues to champion continuous training, innovation in risk prevention and a shared safety culture across the yard.
