STP Shipyard Palma played host this week to Emmanuel Mallia, Malta's Ambassador to Spain, during his visit to Mallorca to gain first-hand insight into the island's port ecosystem and yachting industry.
During the visit, the Ambassador, accompanied by Malta's Honorary Consul in Palma de Mallorca, Pablo Collado Serra, toured STP's facilities and explored the workings of the yard, including its distinctive open-yard model, which has firmly established it as one of the Mediterranean's leading hubs for superyacht refit.
Emmanuel Mallia said that "this visit has provided an excellent opportunity to gain an in-depth vision of the work carried out at STP, a benchmark in the Mediterranean, and to highlight the parallels between Malta and Mallorca". Both islands share not only a strategic location in the central Mediterranean, but also a long-standing tradition of maritime excellence and innovation. What's more, this meeting has also underlined the importance of the yachting industry as a key catalyst for economic growth, investment and international connectivity in both territories, paving the way for new opportunities for collaboration".
The visit further highlighted the strategic role of Mallorca, and in particular the Bay of Palma, as an international hub for the yachting industry, while opening up potential avenues for partnership between Malta and the Balearic Islands in this field.
In this regard, Joan Rosselló, General Manager of STP Shipyard Palma, explained that "institutional visits of this kind play a key role in enhancing the industry's international visibility and in fostering new opportunities for collaboration between destinations with a strong maritime tradition".
He also emphasised the importance of further consolidating Mallorca's position as a benchmark for superyacht refit and repair, thanks to the quality of its infrastructure, a highly specialised business ecosystem and the depth of professional expertise across the industry.
The Ambassador's visit injects further momentum into an ongoing programme of institutional engagement, anchoring STP Shipyard Palma's position within the international yachting ecosystem and cultivating stronger ties among the Mediterranean's key strategic hubs.
