Technology and prevention: STP Shipyard Palma's commitment to boosting workplace health and safety

On the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, STP Shipyard Palma held the fourth edition of its Safety Day, an event aimed at raising awareness of the importance of workplace health and safety among workers who regularly operate at the yard.

Titled "Technology used for Workplace Health and Safety", the event had an exhibition space in front of the STP offices to showcase cutting-edge technical solutions related to ergonomics, hygiene, and environmental control, all focused on workplace health and safety.

On show were state-of-the-art devices provided by specialised companies such as Hilti Spain and ADSUM, among others. Hilti presented two models of wearables: one designed to reduce stress on the shoulders in repetitive tasks at height, and another that allows users to operate heavy manual tools without overexerting themselves. STP operators and workers from other companies in the port were able to test out these solutions in situ.

Meanwhile, Adsum Integria exhibited a smart wristband model for the detection and prevention of heat stroke, which alerts the operator if their body temperature hits risk levels. Air quality measuring equipment was also on display, all explained by qualified technicians.

As in previous years, Fraternidad Muprespa — a social security mutual insurance company — supported this day with its experience in and commitment to the prevention and reduction of workplace accidents.

As well as helping organise and develop the event, the firm underlined the importance of adapting health and safety measures to technological advances to boost their effectiveness.

For its part, STP highlighted the success of this year's event. "We firmly believe that health and safety starts with knowing the risks and applying smart technology to reduce them. The interest shown by workers encourages us to continue promoting this type of action", said Joan Roselló, Manager of STP Shipyard Palma.

Jesús Domínguez, Director of Safety and Human Resources at STP, led the coordination of this day together with the health and safety teams of STP, Hilti and Adsum, highlighting that the involvement of all actors was key to the success of the event.

With initiatives like this, STP Shipyard Palma strives to be one of Europe's safest refit yards.
